California Lighthouse

About

Named for the SS California, a steamship wrecked nearby in 1891, the lighthouse marks the point where the calm west coast turns into the rough, undeveloped north shore. The climb to the top lays out sand dunes, scrub desert and the hotel strip in one turn, and it has become one of the island's most reliable sunset gathering spots, tour buses included. A restaurant sits at its base for anyone who wants to make an evening of it rather than a quick photo stop.
