Around a hundred rescued donkeys live here, descendants of animals brought over by Spanish settlers in the 1500s and left to fend for themselves once cars replaced them as transport. Visitors walk freely among the herd rather than viewing them across a fence, and a bag of feed bought at the gate disappears fast once the donkeys notice. The sanctuary runs entirely on donations and volunteer labor, with no entrance fee charged at any point.
